James advises on compulsory purchase procedure from initial strategic advice through to making a CPO, obtaining powers, implementing powers and negotiating compensation. The advice he provides is critical in reducing costs, reducing risk and providing certainty to both claimants and acquiring authorities.

He has extensive experience of dealing with a wide range of property types including, but not exclusive to, retail, office, industrial, residential, development land, leisure facilities, care homes, advertising hoardings, fast food takeaways and funeral parlours.

Drawing on research, market knowledge and experience James is able to provide cost estimates which are relied upon for financial budgeting purposes and to guide negotiations by agreement in the shadow of a CPO. James has had considerable success in conducting negotiations to acquire land prior to compulsory purchase powers being required, creating certainty to the parties concerned and avoiding unnecessary costs.
